At approximately 6:15 p.m. on Monday, a call for a fire structure at 7 Fulton St. in the Village of Owego led to a quick response by local firemen, as well as the police. The home, owned by Alan Collins, was being worked on by members of the fire department by the time the Owego Police Department arrived.

The fire was sparked by what officials are stating was the wood stove on the first floor. It was also reported that the single occupant of the home was able to evacuate as the flames ran up the side of the home, reaching into the attic.

On Tuesday, portions of the wood stove were laying in the yard next to the home, and fire damage was visible on the left side of the house from the first floor up to the roof, where damage from flames was evident.

The Owego Fire Department, Tioga Center, and Apalachin Fire Department all responded to the scene.

No further details were available at the time of this reporting.
