Make A Difference Day Food Drive Challenge; October 23-28

In collaboration with Carol’s Coffee & Art Bar and The Owego Pennysaver, the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation is conducting its annual Make A Difference Day Food Drive Challenge, benefiting Tioga County Rural Ministry, from Monday, Oct. 23 to Saturday, Oct. 28 in Owego. Donated food is being collected at Carol’s Coffee & Art Bar and The Owego Pennysaver office, both located on Front Street in Owego.

Preferred foods include canned tuna, tomatoes, beets, tomato paste, pasta sauces, peanut butter, pasta noodles, low-sugar cereal, pork and beans, high protein soups, canned Chef Boyardee spaghetti with meatballs, and salad dressing.

Tioga County has a great history around Make A Difference Day due in large part to the public leadership of Fran Leavenworth, then chair of the Tioga County Legislature and several years later Vice-President of the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, Inc. Fran was a champion for community service for every citizen of all ages and walks of life. She inspired and mobilized groups, organizations and individuals across Tioga County to take the time to do something good for their community.

With Fran’s passing on Feb. 15, 2009, Tioga County lost one of its greatest servant leaders and dear friend. Fran’s community legacy is maintained in service projects and recognition on the annual October Make A Difference Day. Tioga County Rural Ministry is a nonprofit service organization dedicated to serving those who are poor, sick, or elderly.
