The Ti-Ahwaga Community Players will present Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize winning play ‘A Delicate Balance’ on Feb. 8, 9, 10, Feb. 15, 16, 17 and Feb. 22, 23, 24 at the Ti-Ahwaga Performing Arts Center, 42 Delphine St., Owego, N.Y.
‘A Delicate Balance’ is Albee’s witty take on the drawing-room comedy that will have you laughing one moment and anxious the next as he examines the “delicate balance” involved in maintaining marriages, families and friendships. A well-to-do couple, Agnes and Tobias have their complacent lives with Agnes’ live-in, alcoholic sister Claire upset by the arrival of longtime friends Harry and Edna, who are seeking refuge because some nameless terror has driven them from their home – and then by the arrival of their daughter Julia, whose fourth marriage has just collapsed.
“Directing and presenting another Edward Albee play is a challenge both I and our ensemble cast embrace,” Director Shawn Yetter said. “The Player’s remain committed to bringing lesser done works with such raw and thought provoking material to the stage.”
The cast includes Jane Nichols as Agnes, Keith Nichols as Tobias, Linda Fenescey as Edna, Jim Osborne as Harry, Stacey Jo Oropello as Claire and Sarah Jensen as Julia.
Shows start at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. General admission is $18. Friday admission for students with ID cards is $10. Sunday admission for seniors 60 and over is $15. Fine wines, beers, soft drinks and snacks are available to enjoy at your table during the show, and there isn’t a bad seat in the house.
The show is underwritten in part by Gallery 41; Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP; Keith A. Nichols MD, PLLC; Hess Express; and Barry and Sharon Schecter. To reserve seats, call the Ti-Ahwaga Performing Arts Center at 687-2130 and log on to www.tiahwaga.com for more information about the center.
