Arrest made following stand-off in Windsor, N.Y.
Members of the New York State Police arrested Jose J. Gonzalez, age 45 of 42 Bennett Rd. in the Town of Windsor after a domestic dispute at his residence yesterday. They charged him with two counts of Menacing in the Second Degree, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree – all Misdemeanors.
Police responded to the residence at 4:00 p.m. and learned that Gonzalez had threatened two people with a .22 caliber rifle during the dispute. As troopers closed off Bennett Road and secured the scene, a neighbor told responding troopers he heard what he believed to be a single gunshot. All attempts by State Police Crisis Negotiators to talk with him met with negative results.
Members of the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team searched the residence with a robot and cameras, but were unable to locate him. Just after 11:00 p.m., they entered the residence and located Gonzalez hiding in a bedroom closet. They took him into custody without incident and recovered the rifle at the scene.
Troopers arraigned Gonzalez in the Town of Windsor Court, where he was remanded to the Broome County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
