Updated: Four-year-old dies in Richford fire on Tuesday
A fire on Jan. 7 in Richford resulted in one fatality and totally destroyed the home. The Richford Fire Department and Berkshire Emergency Squad responded to the structure fire at 9266 West Creek Rd. in the Town of Richford at 12:29 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2014.
The property was owned by William and Leanna Hulse and was occupied by the Hulses’ and their three children – Haley, age 6; Isabella, age 2; and Trent, age 4. Four members of the family were able to escape the home. Parents, neighbors and firefighters were unable to rescue Trent. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Tioga County Coroner Office.
The property was considered a total loss. The Richford Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Firefighters and EMS units from Berkshire, Newark Valley, Speedsville, Slaterville, Weltonville and Bangs Ambulance. Also on the Scene were crews from The Tioga County Sheriff’s Department, NYSEG, the American Red Cross and the Tioga County Highway Department. The Owego Fire Department stood by at the Newark Valley Fire Station until crews went back in service.
The incident and cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Department and the Tioga County Fire Investigation Team and the Tioga County Coroner’s Office.
